“The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) envisions achieving excellence across all sectors and fields. I commend Niosh and the ministry for spearheading this initiative,” he said during the pre-launch ceremony of the Asean Safety and Health Workers Summit 2025.

Present were Niosh chairman Chong Chien Jen and the ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Norison Ramli.

Meanwhile, Chong said several programmes will be held in conjunction with the summit, including the NIOSHCert International Standards Seminar 2025 (NISS2025), the Asian Occupational Safety and Health Research Institutes (AOSHRI) meeting, the 3rd Malaysia Research Initiative for National Agenda (MaRINA) 3.0 Workshop, and the Asean++ Workshop and Study Visit for participants from Asean member countries.

In line with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year, he said it is crucial for Niosh to take a leading role in addressing emerging occupational safety and health challenges.

“These challenges now go beyond traditional physical hazards such as noise and light, encompassing chemical, biological, and economic risks associated with equipment and workplace postures.

“Additionally, psychosocial issues like stress and depression are becoming increasingly significant in our society and the evolving work environment,” he said.
