Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 unveils new campaign for minimally invasive surgery innovation
Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) has launched its “Less Scars, Less Pain” campaign to educate the public on the benefits of safe, precise, and minimally invasive surgical innovations that enhance well-being and recovery while minimising scarring and pain.
Running from August to December 31, 2024, the campaign features two phases. The first, “Zip-less: Beyond the Beat”, focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), including procedures like coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), mitral valve replacement, and aortic valve replacement.
The second phase, “Redefined Precision: Where Robotics Meet Expertise”, highlights advanced robotic technologies that allow surgeons to perform surgeries with exceptional precision, resulting in faster recovery times, fewer complications, and better outcomes.
CEO Tan Sok Kheng stated, “This aligns with DSH2’s vision to excel in heart and lung care, emphasizing clinical achievement, service satisfaction, and technological advancement.” He also noted that DSH2 has transformed from a care center into a nationwide training hub for cardiothoracic surgeons in minimally invasive techniques.
“Zip-less: Beyond the Beat” showcases MICS, or zip-less cardiac surgery, which reduces scarring and complications and facilitates faster recovery through a small incision of 3-7 cm between the ribs. This approach contrasts with traditional open-heart surgery, which requires a sternotomy, resulting in significant scarring.
“MICS is safe, offering a range of options from simple keyhole surgeries to advanced procedures, ensuring the best treatment and improved surgical experiences,” said Prof Dr Shahrul Amry, noting that minimally invasive techniques are the standard in leading centres abroad, like Germany. DSH2 has earned the “Rising Star Hospital of the Year” award at the 2024 Global Health Asia-Pacific Awards.
