According to the 2019 United Nation World Population Report, more than 703 million people were aged 65 years and over and the number is expected to double to 1.5 billion by the year 2050. The ageing transformation is classified when the ageing population becomes a proportionately larger share of the total population.

Declining fertility rates and increasing life expectancies has led to the ageing of the global population. With the number and proportion of older persons growing faster than all other age groups, more companies are venturing into assistive technologies and digital healthcare solutions.

Hence, four Taiwan Excellence award winners demonstrated their technologies during the “Aging Wisely with Trusty Healthcare” webinar recently. The event was jointly held by TAITRA, the foremost trade promotion entity in Taiwan, and the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The four innovative and reliable long-term care offerings that were presented are:

Gigantex – medical care equipment from a carbon fibre component manufacturer has successfully created one of the lightest folding wheelchairs in the market. It is designed in a one-piece construction, allowing the user to fold the wheelchair in seconds.
