Congenital heart disease now covered Indian health program
Children with congenital heart disease will now receive medical care under the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Guarantee (MPPSG) Act 2010.
The government has medical support programmes ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 100,000, for children up to 15 years old. A parent just needs to hand in a hospital recommendation and an ID for their child to receive needed medical care.
“Incidence of children born with a hole in heart affects eight in every 1,000 children. Congenital heart defect and acquired structural heart disease can be cured at low cost.” said Interventional cardiologist Dr. GC Gautham.
He added that cardiac echoes after birth can help detect congenital heart defects. Early intervention and medical attention is crucial to fix a hole in the heart to prevent consequences later in life—like frequent fatigues and shortness of breath.
