Taiwan introduces digital GMP certificates to bolster pharma competitiveness
Taiwan has fully implemented international PIC/S GMP standards to ensure the safety and quality of its medicinal products. Pharmaceutical manufacturers in Taiwan can now apply for GMP certificates from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) after undergoing inspections and meeting the stringent requirements of the PIC/S GMP.
In line with global technological advancements and the growing trend of digitalization, the TFDA has taken a significant step towards digital transformation. Starting July 31, 2024, the TFDA will issue digital GMP certificates alongside traditional hard copies. These digital certificates feature a secure digital signature and are encrypted to comply with the global Adobe Approved Trust List and Taiwan’s Electronic Signatures Act. Users can quickly verify the certificates by scanning a QR code or uploading the PDF file to a verification platform. Since the platform’s launch, over a thousand verifications have already been conducted, highlighting the growing global confidence in Taiwan’s pharmaceutical sector.
This digital initiative is expected to enhance the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s pharmaceutical manufacturers, making it easier for global markets to trust and verify the quality of their products.
