ITRMC acquires Philippines’ first helium-free MRI in Gov't healthcareThe Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in the Philippines has become the first government hospital in the country to acquire a helium-free magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, enhancing diagnostic precision while promoting sustainability.

The state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI, procured using hospital income from Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) reimbursements, also makes ITRMC the first medical facility in Northern Luzon to adopt this advanced imaging technology.

Manufactured by Philips Philippines, the machine features BlueSeal Technology, an AI-driven imaging system that provides comprehensive organ evaluations, early disease detection, and safe imaging for pregnant women. It also reduces operational costs by eliminating the need for helium, a costly and finite resource.

Dr. Unity Cortez, head of ITRMC Medical Services, stated that the PHP110 million machine will significantly improve early diagnosis and treatment planning in fields such as cardiology, oncology, and neurology. The MRI replaces an outdated unit that sustained damage during the post-pandemic transition.

The acquisition was featured during an ITRMC event, attended by officials from the Department of Health (DOH). ITRMC hopes this advancement will encourage other government hospitals to integrate similar technology, strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
