Timor-Leste, Malaysia eye collaborative prospects in education, health
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed Timor-Leste’s eagerness to collaborate with Malaysia in the education and health sectors, recognising their potential to bolster cooperation between the two nations, according to a report from Bernama. This sentiment was articulated by Ahmad Zahid’s Timor-Leste counterpart, Mariano Assanami Sabino Lopes, who serves as both the Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing, during a meeting following the conclusion of the 2024 International Conference of Religious Leaders in Petaling Jaya.
In the meeting, Ahmad Zahid elaborated on various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), highlighting endeavors aimed at advancing rural areas, fortifying national food security, empowering TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training), and nurturing the halal industry.
Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid, who also holds the position of Minister of Rural and Regional Development, noted Lopes’ appreciation for Malaysia’s provision of numerous educational opportunities for children from Timor-Leste.
Expressing optimism, Ahmad Zahid emphasized the potential for this meeting to yield positive outcomes and strengthen ties between Malaysia and Timor-Leste across various domains. He envisioned Malaysia as a model for regional nations to emulate, fostering closer relations and mutual benefit.
