Medical AI Advances with Alibaba and WHO Partnership on Digital Health
Alibaba Group’s research institute, Damo Academy has partnered with the WHO (World Health Organization) Collaborating Center on Digital Health to advance innovations in digital health, particularly benefiting developing countries. This partnership was launched at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva on May 30th.
Together, they will leverage their resources to conduct research, provide advisory services, and offer training in digital health, AI, and industrial development. This collaboration aims to improve healthcare accessibility and quality, especially through the international outreach of medical AI.

Damo Academy’s medical AI team is working with global medical institutions to develop cost-effective AI methods for multi-cancer screening. Their AI model has shown high sensitivity and specificity in early cancer detection, particularly for pancreatic cancer, as demonstrated in a study published in Nature Medicine. This technology is already being applied in hospitals in Zhejiang province, China, as part of Alibaba’s philanthropy program.
Leaders from both organizations emphasize their commitment to using AI to drive global health improvements and support developing countries through cutting-edge digital health technologies.
