Zenyum invisible braces a great alternative treatment for crooked teeth

Dental technology start-up Zenyum is set to take over affordable, aesthetic dentistry in Southeast Asia, one confident smile at a time. Founded in Singapore in 2018, Zenyum offers a refreshing take on traditional dental care products and treatments, including metal braces – Zenyum’s “invisible braces” or clear aligners, for one, can straighten your teeth, minus a hefty price tag.

Healthcare Asia recently chanced to interview Dr. Melissa, Partnership Manager, Zenyum Malaysia. Besides speaking about Zenyum’s clear aligners, Dr. Mel provides dental and oral health care tips to ensure a winning smile.

HCA: Can you provide a brief intro into Zenyum?

Zenyum, a leading Smile Cosmetics company in Southeast-Asia, as of today offers an expanding range of dental care products like toothpaste and a power brush. But you’re right to ask about our flagship product, ZenyumClear. These invisible braces straighten your teeth at an affordable price and with easy financing options. Contrary to some DIY players, we never compromise on quality and are backed by a large network of dentists across Asia that are providing safe and high-quality treatment outcomes.

Every single customer goes through an X-Ray, a 3D scan of their teeth, and an in-person consultation with locally licensed orthodontists and dentists that have experience in Clear Aligner treatment. Getting started with Zenyum is easy: just head on to our website and submit a free smile assessment – which will tell you whether you’re a suitable candidate – and we’ll guide you through the process from there.

While this saves you time in the beginning, our customers can also connect with Zenyum via our app at regular intervals, to track and manage progress. And after your smile transformation is complete, Zenyum will support you to keep smiling with retainers, toothbrushes, teeth whitening and dental cosmetic packages. We aim to transform oral care from being a boring chore to an exciting ritual, and have opened a category that previously was inaccessible to hundreds of millions of customers here in Asia.

HCA: How does Zenyum clear aligners differ from traditional braces?

Traditional braces are fixed appliances in the mouth which are also required to be worn for a long duration of time – of course, the thought of having metal seen when you are speaking or just carrying out your daily routine might make you feel overwhelmed. With Zenyum, we use clear aligners therapy whereby it reduces the treatment duration and it’s almost invisible when you wear it on a day-to-day basis, giving you more room for flexibility.

HCA: How does Zenyum ensure their clear aligners contribute to the overall health of consumers?

Why do people want to get their teeth fixed? It could be for aesthetic reasons or functional reasons, per se, but both directly contribute to a greater quality of life for an individual. So in simpler words, when you can smile with confidence and eat with comfort, without any tooth issues, your overall health tremendously improves given how your quality of life is heightened.

This is what Zenyum does.

After making you smile, we further make your life beautiful. I emphasise on the point: we strongly believe that providing the best/ideal outcome is crucial; hence, we are meticulous with our case selections. I remember reading this article by the American Dental Association in April 2006 titled ‘Healthy mouth, healthy body’ which expressed the importance in a crisp way by saying, the mouth is a window into the health of the body.

HCA: Who can use Zenyum aligners? How good/bad should teeth be before treatment is sought?

This is a tough one because if I may, I want to say each and every one of you! Yes, as I have mentioned, we can treat almost all types of teeth except for severe cases which also goes on a case-to-case basis.

We have the Free smile assessment for potential customers for Zenyum Invisible Braces, whereby customers simply submit a photo of their teeth to determine eligibility for Zenyum. Please note, individuals must be 18 years old and above.

HCA:  What is treatment/aftercare like?

The way invisible braces work is quite similar to metal braces, as both medical devices exert consistent pressure on your teeth to move them to the desired position through time. Of course, invisible braces are a more attractive option because they don’t clutter your teeth, you can remove them anytime, and are more comfortable than metal braces too.

We help customers to understand the treatment process by putting ourselves in their shoes. We can empathise how invisible braces may seem unfamiliar compared to traditional methods that have been around for decades, so we give them the option to chat or call our customer service executives, where they can hear for themselves about how our aligners work, and what are the new lifestyle changes they can expect during their treatment – such as better oral hygiene!

Another plus point to choose invisible braces over metal braces is the 3D imaging of your treatment because it allows you to see the expected end results after completing treatment. This is something which metal braces don’t offer so you won’t know how the outcome looks like, until you have gone through the whole treatment. Having the 3D imaging means our customers also have more autonomy in designing their dream smile, which is our goal!

Our customers can suggest changes to the 3D treatment plan until they are satisfied with it before making payment for the treatment.

And I cannot rave enough about our app. It’s the real convenience factor that allows our customers to take charge of their experience. Our app helps to cut down the number of reviews and dental visits! Our customers typically see their Zenyum dentist up to three times: first appointment for dental consultation, second appointment for aligners fitting, then the final review. Everything else in between the treatment can be tracked, monitored, and answered on our app, which frees up our customer’s time.

HCA: What are Zenyum’s plans for an Asian expansion?

We are in awe with the success of Zenyum because it shows that we had created a product (Zenyum Invisible Braces) and an oral care line (ZenyumSonic and soon-to-launch ZenyumFresh) that answers the needs of consumers and enables them to live better.

The demand for our invisible braces treatment is steered by our conscious effort in being a cosmetic dentistry brand that puts our customers first. This is why we partner with top dentists and invest in our proprietary app, so that more people can have access to professional invisible braces treatments that are affordable and fuss-free, while knowing that their entire treatment is in the safe hands of our dentists.

Plus, self-care is not a new concept, and getting invisible braces is no different. It is a way to help ourselves be better, feel better, and look better.

The cosmetic dentistry market is expected to grow from US$21.9 billion in 2020 to US$30.1 billion by 2025. As a brand for Asia, we are passionate about combining the best in-clinic practices of our top dentists in Malaysia, with the convenience of our app, so that our customers can transform their smiles with more ease and confidence.

HCA: Dr. Mel, could you share some dental/oral care tips?

Dental care has a huge significance in our lives and should not be taken lightly because it is a part of our overall health. The importance of dental care is as deep as the ocean and as wide as the sky to say the least.

Dental care most definitely can prevent an individual from serious health complications or reveal a health condition because general health and oral health are co-dependent. Hindrances to dental care can cause complications which are more than just infections. For instance, gum diseases can lead to systemic health issues and in fact have been linked to heart diseases, diabetes, stroke, or even rheumatoid arthritis.

Dental care, if not given importance, is like opening a can of worms. it builds up to bigger issues and I believe a stitch in time saves nine.

As for improving teeth health? Let’s get the ball rolling. The strongest structure in the body is your enamel, also known as your tooth crown. It can last a lifetime if proper care is advocated consistently. The rule of thumb is to practice good oral hygiene whereby brushing twice daily and flossing should be carried out to prevent any form of plaque accumulation – we have ZenyumSonic and ZenyumFresh products that provide you an effective clean. Apart from that, have healthy eating habits, with a moderate amount of sugary food and beverages intake; it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a good slice of cake but just practice moderation.

Do make an appointment for a dental check-up preferably twice a year if not annually. This would give you a better outlook on your dental care as to how you can improvise or make changes to your habits.
