Taiwanese assistive technologies to benefit ageing transformation
According to the 2019 United Nation World Population Report, more than 703 million people were aged 65 years and over and the number is expected to double to 1.5 billion by the year 2050. The ageing transformation is classified when the ageing population becomes a proportionately larger share of the total population.
Declining fertility rates and increasing life expectancies has led to the ageing of the global population. With the number and proportion of older persons growing faster than all other age groups, more companies are venturing into assistive technologies and digital healthcare solutions.
Hence, four Taiwan Excellence award winners demonstrated their technologies during the “Aging Wisely with Trusty Healthcare” webinar recently. The event was jointly held by TAITRA, the foremost trade promotion entity in Taiwan, and the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The four innovative and reliable long-term care offerings that were presented are:
Gigantex – medical care equipment from a carbon fibre component manufacturer has successfully created one of the lightest folding wheelchairs in the market. It is designed in a one-piece construction, allowing the user to fold the wheelchair in seconds.
iXensor – a new generation health technology company that provides portable and efficient device for telehealth service. Utilising a smartphone, integrated with the PixoTest POCT System, it can produce test results for hyperlipidemia and diabetes in only three minutes. It is a lot faster compared to conventional lab tests, which takes at least one day to obtain test results.
Leadtek – an expert in AI technology presented its Wireless Fingertip Oximeter that uses a lightweight and non-invasive design to enable users to do a preliminary test at home to detect Covid-19. It is a convenient all-in-one device that measures oxygen saturation and pulse rate.
Merits – one of the top five power wheelchair manufacturers in the world has introduced the Compact Folding Power Wheelchair that is suitable for users who need to rely on power wheelchairs for indoor use at home and on short trips. Not only is it lightweight and foldable, but it is also equipped with a detachable battery box.
