How to focus better

October 16, 2017

In this age of social media, it is hard not to get distracted. Here are some expert tips on how you can get back your focus.

1.    Avoid social media at work
If you still feel the urge to check out your Facebook, do it during lunch breaks.

2.    Set aside specific time to reply emails
Checking your email and replying to them is a top distraction killer. Avoid this by scheduling specific time to check your email.

3.    Do the same with calls
When you’re focusing on an important project, or have a tight deadline to meet, let the calls go to voicemail, and when you are free, listen to it.

4.    Avoid multitasking
Research suggests you lose time whenever you shift your attention from one task to another. The end result is that doing three projects simultaneously usually takes longer than doing them one after the other, so tackle projects one at a time.

5.    Curb nagging thoughts
Nagging thoughts are persistent thoughts that replay in your mind. Perhaps you are thinking of having to do grocery shopping at the end of the day, or perhaps you are replaying a scenario that happened to you the day before. Tackle nagging thoughts by making a to-do list, or engage in meditation and mindfulness to regain focus.
