How old is your heart? This quiz lets you find out

September 2, 2015

Aside from your real age, heart age is another number to consider. The Centers for Disease Control made a little quiz for you to find out yours. The quiz is for adults aged between 30 and 74. The short quiz factors in body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, smoking habits, and diabetes to compute for heart age.

The quiz was created by Framingham Heart Study. Through the quiz, researchers found out that 69 million adults had heart ages which are older than their actual ages. On average, heart ages are 8 and 5 years older for men and women respectively.

“Because so many U.S. adults don’t understand their cardiovascular disease risk, they are missing out on early opportunities to prevent future heart attacks or strokes,” Barbara Bowman, the CDC’s director of heart disease and stroke prevention, said in the report. “About three in four heart attacks and strokes are due to risk factors that increase heart age, so it’s important to continue focusing on efforts to improve heart health and increase access to early and affordable detection and treatment resources nationwide.”
