UAE lab devises breakthrough test to detect coronavirus in camels

Al Wathba Veterinary Laboratory of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has achieved a scientific breakthrough, devising a test to detect coronavirus in camels in just 20 minutes.

Mohammed Al Raisi, head of communications and community service at the ADFCA, said that the agency is keen on achieving security to ensure animal health and developing livestock production while ensuring food supply and food safety. Mr Al Raisi added that the test will be provided at all ADFCA veterinary laboratories and will be made available to camel breeders.

All UAE laboratories will eventually have the test.

He said the ADFCA Veterinary Laboratory Department has been assigned to provide necessary technical support and training to staff in other laboratories with regards to coronavirus in camels.
