New vaccine to fight four strains of the flu
KUALA LUMPUR – Now, there is a vaccine that will give protection against four strains of the flu.
Sanofi Pasteur has launched the vaccine here also offers protection against the Influenza B strain.
Influenza B is the major cause of seasonal flu epidemics every 2 to 4 years, causing substantial absenteeism, hospitalisation and contributing to high mortality rate.
Paediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist from the University of Malaya, Prof Koh Mia Tuang explains, “Due to the incessant evolution of Influenza viruses, the importance for Malaysians to get the quadrivalent vaccine is imperative.
“The additional strain of Influenza B present in quadrivalent vaccine provides a broader protection against influenza for the whole family.”
Sanofi Pasteur Managing Director, Baptiste de Clarens stated that this new vaccine has been formulated to best fit the current Influenza epidemiology.
