Kapit hospital to be upgraded in stages
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kapit Hospital in Sarawak is being upgraded in stages to cater to rising number of patients, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said the hospital, which has 134 beds with a utilisation rate of 40.97 per cent last year, has 12 doctors, two specialists in general medicine and paediatrics.
He said the emergency unit was upgraded in 2010, the intensive care unit (ICU) and a drug store in 2011, and the kitchen and paediatric isolation ward last year.
“Kapit Hospital also receives regular visits from specialists in general medicine, general surgery, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and psychiatry,” said when replying to a question from Wilson UgakKumbong (BN-Hulu Rajang).
On the Belaga Hospital, Dr Subramaniam said the government would study a proposal to upgrade the hospital as the Belaga Health Clinic which was opened in 2011 could cater the needs of local residents.
