Vietnamese scientists prove the good of acupuncture

VIETNAM – Acupuncture has been used to relieve pain in Vietnam for a very long time, but until recently, scientists have proved that electric acupuncture makes the increase of beta-endorphin, a morphine that kills pain.

This is an outstanding medical research of Vietnam. The research was carried out on rabbits and 1,200 patients of spinal failure, stomach ulcer and throat cancer. These are common diseases in Vietnam at present.

Ass. Prof. Nghiem Huu Thanh, director of the Acupuncture Hospital, who is the leader of the research group, said that electric acupuncture was highly effective in relieving pain. It made the increase of content of substances that help kill pain. For example, Beta-endorphin increased from 43.58 pg/ml to 51.70 pg/ml after the first acupuncture and to 55.94 after seven times of acupuncture.

Mr. Thanh said that electric acupuncture can help reduce pain after goiter operations and in the last stage of gullet cancer for 3-4 hours each time. It can also help restore the patients’ swallow function while other methods cannot help.

“It is important that patients, especially throat cancer patients who are in the last stage, do not need to take relievers,” Thanh said.

This method is also cheap, easy to use since it does not require modern supporting equipment.
