Pharmatech Associates Hires Chat Kwan to Lead Asian Operations
Pharmatech Associates, a compliance consulting firm serving companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries, has appointed veteran biopharmaceutical executive Chat Kwan as Vice President of Asian Operations. Kwan has been instrumental in developing Pharmatech’s business in China and will be responsible for leading the firm’s ongoing projects in Asia.
Kwan is joining Pharmatech at a time of accelerated growth, where demand is increasing for process qualification and facility operations, design and construction that meet the compliance standards set by regulatory agencies in China, Europe and the U.S. (sFDA, EMEA, WHO and FDA).
Pharmatech’s current projects include design guidance and commissioning and validation services for a leading Chinese pharmaceutical corporation’s aseptic product manufacturing facility in Guangdong province. Pharmatech also led design work for China’s first FDA-licensed bio-manufacturing facility in Taizhou, providing the first Basis of Design to meet FDA and EMEA compliance requirements.
In a career spanning 30 years, Kwan has completed complex pharmaceutical process projects in China, France, Korea, Japan, Mexico and the U.S., and designed manufacturing equipment and process systems for a state-of-the-art solid dosing plant in Puerto Rico. As Director, Facility Operations for Gilead Sciences, Kwan managed a one million square foot corporate campus housing a headcount of over 1,000 people, including research chemists and biologists, clinical development, IT and API pilot plants on-site.
“Chat Kwan brings a wealth of experience and leadership to Pharmatech. I am confident that his contributions will help our customers in emerging markets meet product safety requirements effectively and improve their product manufacturing,” said Calvin Wong, chairman and CEO of Pharmatech Associates.
“The Asia biopharmaceutical market is expanding rapidly with funding from government and private sectors. Pharmatech has served these markets since 2007 and established a reputation as quality management, facility design and regulatory compliance experts,” said Chat Kwan. “Helping our clients in China to improve the quality of their healthcare industries means, at the end of the day, that we help people live better lives.”
