People who cannot resist chewing on their pen or pencil especially when stressed or nervous can now do so without the fear of catching a mouthful of plastic and bitter ink. Conceptualised by Dave Hakkens, the edible pen is made of one piece of candy with ingredients that make it easy to chew off one piece at a time.

According to Hakkens, the pen doesn’t get sticky and won’t melt in your hand. The pen is mostly made of candy but down near the tip is a small well of edible ink. The only portion that is not edible is the small hard bit at the tip. Once consumed, users can either throw the inedible bit or keep it as a refill for a new candy pen. The candy used to make the pen is similar to the ones used in candy necklaces. According to Hakken, the pen can come in different flavours including banana, kiwi, watermelon, orange, and peppermint. To date, there is no word if or when the candy pens will be available in the market.
