INDONESIA – In commemorating Jakarta’s 485th anniversary this year, Jakarta Provincial Government and Indonesia Buddhist Congregation Representative (Walubi) held another free healthcare service on 23 June at Kemayoran Sport Center, Central Jakarta. The activity targeted to serve 10 thousand poor people.
“I warmly welcome this free healthcare service activity. We want Jakarta to be more advanced, more affluent, and more healthy,” said Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo when opening the event, Saturday (6/23).
This healthcare service activity is supported with paramedics and doctors who have good skills and many experiences. That is why on this occasion Fauzi also expressed his gratitude and appreciation over Walubi’s concern for the free healthcare service given.
Walubi Chairman Hartati Murdaya stated this activity is a form of tolerance and humanity to help lower-income people. “It is expected could give benefits for them,” she uttered.
The healthcare treatment provided includes general medical treatment, dental specialist (tooth pulled and patched), cataract surgery, minor surgery, and harelip surgery done by 112 doctors consist of 55 specialist doctors and 57 public doctors. They are assisted by 173 paramedics, 5 pharmacists, 5 pharmacist assistants, 6 surgical nurses, 12 dental nurses, 20 public nurses, and 150 volunteers.
Meanwhile, Central Jakarta Mayor Saefullah stressed that similar activity will be held again soon in Central Jakarta. But for its schedule and location, it is still being coordinated. “This activity definitely helps the government so much in creating a healthy community, and surely also helps poor people,” he asserted.
Ahmad (55), a local resident who has been suffering cataract since couple of years ago, admitted very helpful with this activity. “Alhamdulillah (with God’s will), I have undergone cataract surgery in this activity. Back then, I didn’t have money to treat it,” he said.
