These socks are designed to replace your running shoes
Barefoot running is great for the beach, but for all the other places, we advise not to take the risk. If you’re insistent on freedom, though, at least wear some socks.
Okay, not just some socks, but Fly Your Free Socks from Swiss Barefoot Company. FYF, as they are otherwise called, are wool socks with toughened soles. They can be used for all kinds of sports like running, surfing, and wall climbing.
FYFs are made of a material called Dyneema that makes them tougher than your average wool sock. Dyneema has a higher tensile strength than braided steel. It’s also abrasion-resistant, flexible, water-resistant, and lightweight. The material can bend like a sock, but protects your soles from sharp rocks.
The socks are not for sale yet. But the Swiss Barefoot Company launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the production. The company is currently at US$75,000 in crowdfunding, way above their US$10,000 target. The company plans to ship their first batches to Kickstarter patrons in October.
