Philippine’s Cebu integrates Chinese medicine into healthcare training
The Philippine provincial government of Cebu has partnered with Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to train local doctors in alternative healing practices. This collaboration aims to introduce traditional Chinese medicine, including herbal treatments, acupuncture, and naturopathy, to government and private physicians in the region.
A health summit is being planned to facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions led by experts from Fujian University. Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia confirmed that arrangements are underway for university professors to visit Cebu and conduct training programs.
Governor Garcia also announced plans to integrate traditional medicine into Cebu’s “Sugbusog” livelihood program, which promotes family farming. Additionally, alternative healthcare practices will be incorporated into the services of the province’s 16 capitol-run hospitals and training sessions for barangay health workers.
Doctors at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, the region’s pilot hospital, are also encouraged to undergo training in Chinese medicine.
The governor’s interest in traditional medicine grew following her visit to Fujian University during a trade mission last year, which inspired this partnership to enhance healthcare services in Cebu.
