Thinfilm, global pharma firm partner to create NFC platform for medical devices
Thin Film Electronics ASA, also known as Thinfilm and a global leader in printed electronics and smart systems, has recently entered into an agreement with Fortune 500 pharmaceutical firm to create an NFC OpenSense platform for medical devices.
The two companies will leverage Thinfilm’s proprietary NFC technology as a means to improve patient adherence and enhance communication between patients and their caregivers.
“Lack of compliance among patients is a critical issue globally, and industry leaders are looking for effective solutions,” said DavorSutija, Thinfilm’s CEO. “Our partnership with one of the world’s leading pharma companies is focused on delivering such a solution by making medical devices smart. We are very excited about the role NFC OpenSense can play in helping doctors and other caregivers improve patient outcomes.”
The pharmaceutical partnership follows several important milestones achieved by Thinfilm in the second quarter of 2016, including:
- The first pilot order delivery of NFC OpenSense tags with ferrite shields to a Fortune 500 client (ferrite enables NFC technology to function properly when placed on packaging that contains metal or foil)
- A completed order delivery for EAS (electronic article surveillance) tags to Nedap, and the receipt of a new order for further processing from dry to wet inlays
- A partnership with Hopsy, the USA’s first local craft beer marketplace and beer delivery service, to integrate NFC technology into a variety of locally produced craft beers across the United States
- A partnership with Maria & Donato, a craftsman leather-goods manufacturer based in Spain, to integrate NFC SpeedTap tags into Maria&Donato’s exclusive handbag collections
