The inaugural Medical Fair Asia Medicine + Sports Conference, organized by Messe Düsseldorf Asia (MDA), will be held on the September 1and it will be co-located with Medical Fair Asia, the region’s premier medical trade fair at The Sands Expo & Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

The conference was inspired by the success over the past three iterations of the Medica Medicine + Sports Medicine Conference which was staged atMedica, in Düsseldorf, Germany, the world’s largest medical trade fair also organized by Messe Düsseldorf.

The Medical Fair Asia Medicine + Sports Conferenceaims to forge links within the international sports medicine ecosystem and the interdisciplinary exchange between international sports medicine experts, professional athletes and the sporting goods and healthcare industry. The Asia-Pacific sports medicine market is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 7% and is expected to be worth US$3.95 billion (S$5.3 billion) by 2019.

As well as catering to the sporting community and industries, Medical Fair Asia Medicine + Sports Conference also aims to contribute to preparing not only exercise experts but also primary healthcare providers and physicians for helping ageing populations prevent lifestyle and geriatric diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis. Asia’s growing middle classes and ageing populations are creating a huge market for such services; in Singapore alone, the healthcare expenditure is projected to reach S$12 billion by 2020 according to Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the budget debate in Parliament in March 2014.
