Girl guides bring cheers to cancer patients
KUCHING: The Sarawak branch of Trefoil Guild Girl Guides (TGGG) recently celebrated the 60th Anniversary of International Scout & Guide Fellowship (ISGF) by visiting the newly opened Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society’s centre at DesaWira here.
During their visit, the group led by their chairman Dona Drury Wee and advisor DatinDayangMarianiAbangZain donated books, educational toys and gift packs to the young patients there.
Members of TGGG, the Baden Powell Guild Sarawak branch together with Poppies at tHeSpring jointly sponsored the gifts.
“We have been called upon to celebrate this day with empathy and for this very reason we have chosen to be here at SCCS today,” said Dona in her welcoming speech.
During the function, DayangMariani also read out the messages from secretary general of ISGF World Bureau, Cecile Bellet and chairman of World ISGF Committee Mida Rodrigues.
As part of the world wide celebration, TGGG Sarawak also took part in a Skype marathon where members spoke with their counterparts at ISGF headquarters in Brussels as well as its Kuala Lumpur branch.
The ISGF also launched the ‘Fellowship Toy’ project in partnership with UNHCR throughout its member regions with the aim to restore some small happiness among less fortunate children around the world.
In the project, ISGF members were asked to gather non-electronic toys to be delivered to local UNHCR agencies worldwide including in Malaysia where the presentation will be held during the 27th ISGF World Conference in Australia in October, 2014.
