September 21, 2012

Korean researchers have found that purple corn can be effective in treating diabetes as it contains anthocyanins (PCA) or flavonoids that have anti-diabetic properties, a new study published in the American Journal of Physiology reveals.

The study was conducted by researchers at Department of Biochemistry at Hallym University who found that the spread of diabetic nephropathy can be stopped by the cellular and molecular activity of purple corn.

Purple corn, grown natively in Chile and Peru, has been found to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and certain cancer, lower blood pressure, prevent atherosclerosis and also sustain weight when ingested with a high fat diet.
